Our hosts are moving all of their sites to new servers in the next few days.

This might mean the site goes off line or behaves strangely...
Hopefully we will only be off for a few hours as DNS updates..

Later tonight I will post details on how to change a Windows XP 'hosts' file, so that the DNS updates won't affect you.

If anyone has any bizarre issues, please email me.

Please post comments in Forum Talk.

Thanks

What is HOSTS
http://accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html

How to: HOSTS File
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm

The host file can be used to help resolve domain names, so if the DNS is being updated your hosts file can be configured with the correct IP Address for the forum, and it will still resolve.

IE:
Code:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1            localhost
212.58.224.115   www.bbc.co.uk

With the example above if DNS failed, you would still get to www.bbc.co.uk as your HOSTS file knows the IP Address of the web server.

Once I know what our new IP Address is, I'll post it here. This may be of use whilst the site is being moved.

This is going to happen shortly.

When I have the IP address details, I will post it on-line, so you can amend your hosts file..

Please make sure your correct email address is in your profile, as I will email out the IP Address, just in case users can't access the forum.

Cheers

This is going to happen in the next couple of days..

If you make sure you've updated your accounts with a valid email address, I'll mail users when it happens..

Should be this week end !!

The forum will be going off line at about 11:30 tonight Surprised

As soon as it is fully transferred, I will enable access..
Hopefully this will be tomorrow lunch time.

If the DNS has updated by then the forum should be here as normal.

If DNS hasn't updated, try accessing the forum via www.evilpc.co.uk

I have configured this to forward to the new server whilst we wait on the DNS !!

Emails with these details will be sent out tomorrow lunch, if things are not back to normal.

Regards

Sorry for the short notice last night. It happened a lot quicker than expected.

Anyway we should be back up and working OK. Very Happy
Nothing within the forum has changed, we've just moved servers.

We were hosted on a server located in the States, our host had had a few support issues with them (nothing that affected our server), so he has moved all his clients to servers hosted within the UK.

Anyone having any issues over the next day or so, please PM me.

Regards
